Christian films are plentiful these days. I honestly believe that these filmmakers, the studios, and their missions are amazing and well needed. Could you imaging what Hollywood or the film landscape would look like without these wonderful Christian influences? However, we can spend so much time in ministry and so much time making films, that we forget to spend time with God and with each other.
I have seen a lot of filmmakers go into their "holes" and not come out for two or three years until that have "the next film" to show. It is good for an artist to hide away and focus on their art, but when you are a Christian you have to be "in the world" and not "of it", meaning you aren't suppose to mimic a secular artist that does the same thing as you. We are suppose to set the standard of what it means to be someone that cares for those that need help.
Therefore, I have made it the cornerstone of our ministry to be apart of the viewer's lives. Our ministry and film studio is a little different in the fact that we are "always on" and "always accessible", meaning that I (Layne McDonald) take my time to read the Bible, spending time with Christ, spend time with my family (be a human), and read the emails, answer posts, and connect with as many people as I can. The main issue is time, and that is why I have Assistant Producers that will take a bulk of the time as well to help as many people as we can in a single day.
You know, as the filmmaker and ministry leader, I have to set the standard and what is expected of my volunteers that are doing an amazing job making Christian films. We even have a Video On Demand website (www.laynemcdonald.com) where you can see all of the films, comment on the movies, and even get deep into the forums with conversations. We can all connect right there.
This website (www.laynemcdonald.org) is where I can share what we are doing as a ministry, as a whole, and connect with you through my personal posts, answer comments, and go at this in a whole other way. I want to be a person to you, my readers, my film fans, and I want you to come a long with me on this journey. It's hard to be on a journey together and never talk... so, that is why this focus is so important to me.
As you might expect, it is very time consuming to read posts, answer them, and to be in the lives of so many people - but when you buy a film, rent a movie, or subscribe to our studio, you are supporting our work. The least I can do is to answer a post or have a quick moment to say "hi". There are so many Christian film studios out there that are acting like business only and not ministries. It is very important to make your money back on a multimillion dollar investment, and to take care of the big dollar machines that are supporting you, if you want to stay in business. That's why we make movies that I can pay for out of my own pocket; we want to focus on the hearts and minds of those that need Christ and solutions.
So, welcome to a studio that will answer you back as quickly as we can (smiley face). If you have a life situation we will work with local ministries to get with you and help you need. This is the whole purpose of making our films. Films at then end of the day are just marketing pieces for God's love and grace, so that more and more people can come to know Him... not us... It is about making art the people can enjoy and grow from, in Christ Jesus. When viewers contact us with questions and needs, that is what the ministry is really all about; loving and helping those in need.
God bless, and know you are welcomed here,
