LMOS VOID Beta 0.44.0: Easy-First Design + Local-Only Working Files

LMOS now defaults to a simpler one-glance workspace, moves advanced tools behind one More tools door, enforces device-local working-file storage, and adds OPFS, hardware and local-tool foundations without pretending the hosted web build is already a fully offline native OS.

Beta test updateThis article documents what is working now, what it can do for users, and the workflow we want real testers to pressure-test.

What changed

  • Simple mode is the default shared UX rule.

  • Creator workspaces collapse dense menus into What next? + Tools in Simple mode.

  • More tools replaces the less-friendly Pro wording in the shared view switch.

  • Workflow labels and descriptions use shorter everyday language while keeping the same professional commands underneath.

  • Save state stays visible in Simple mode.

  • Touch targets remain 48px on coarse-pointer/mobile devices, with 44px primary-control intent elsewhere.

  • Cloud file providers and LM-hosted working-file storage are disabled by the local-only policy.

  • LM Files quarantines legacy remote references until a local copy is imported.

  • OPFS provides the strict browser-managed local root and project/tool directory tree.

  • Local generated tools run in an isolated Worker with direct network calls blocked.

  • WebUSB, WebSerial and WebHID are exposed only as permission-gated hardware capabilities.

  • LMOS explicitly does not claim physical-internal-volume attestation or full cold-start offline boot in the current hosted web environment.

The design rule

A first-time user should understand the next useful action in one glance. A power user should still be able to reach the deeper tool set without changing applications or learning a different product. Simple and More tools are two views of the same capability, not two different products.

The storage rule

Private working-file bytes belong on this device. In strict browser mode LMOS copies imported working files into browser-managed local storage rather than trusting an arbitrary mounted path that the browser cannot prove is physically internal.

Still open before Genesis 1.0

The native Mac/Windows host remains necessary for trusted internal-volume attestation, deeper native hardware privileges and a certifiable offline boot package. Real-device tablet and phone certification remains a separate release gate.
