We’ve all seen it. The corner office that feels more like a bunker. The "leadership" style that relies on fear, demand, and cold metrics while the souls of the team members slowly wither. For decades, the world has told us that to be a leader is to be invincible, to be calculating, and to keep your heart far away from the "real work" of business and ministry. But that old model is breaking. Corporate America is facing a crisis of burnout, and many of our churches are mirroring the same cold hierarchies that leave people feeling used rather than discipled. This is why Leading with Heart exists. Welcome to the foundation of a new: yet ancient: way to lead. This is the introduction and project hub for a journey into heart-centered leadership. This isn't a book about "soft" leadership; it’s a book about the hardest, most courageous work a leader can do: leading from the inside out. The Project Mission The mission of Leading with Heart is to bridge the gap between administrative excellence and spiritual authenticity. My goal is to provide a comprehensive, 20-chapter blueprint for leaders: whether you are a CEO, a pastor, a parent, or a manager: to lead with intention, empathy, and emotional intelligence. We are living in an era where people don't just want a paycheck or a program; they want a connection. They want to be seen. They want to follow someone who has done the hard work of self-reflection and is brave enough to show up as their true self. This project is dedicated to restoring the "human" to the corporate and the "heart" to the leader. Dedication To the leaders who have been told that their empathy was a weakness. To the managers who felt they had to hide their struggles to remain respected. To the pastors who are tired of performing and ready to start connecting. And to my family, who taught me that the greatest leadership always begins at home, in the quiet, unrecorded moments of love and service. Author’s Notes Writing this book felt like the culmination of two very different worlds I’ve lived in for years. On one hand, I’ve spent my life in the world of high-level administration and communications, earning dual Ph.D.s and navigating the complexities of organizational systems. On the other hand, my heart is deeply rooted in the local church and the Assemblies of God tradition, where the Holy Spirit’s work in the human heart is the ultimate source of transformation. For a long time, I felt like I had to speak two different languages. In the boardroom, I spoke of "strategic alignment" and "KPIs." In the sanctuary, I spoke of "grace" and "spiritual fruit." Leading with Heart is my attempt to stop bifurcating my life. It is the realization that the most strategic thing a leader can do is be full of grace, and the most spiritual thing a leader can do is lead their organization with clarity and excellence. The Epilogue: A Glimpse into the End Before we dive into Chapter 1, I want to share a piece of the ending. Why? Because you need to know where we are going. Heart-centered leadership isn't just about feeling better in the moment; it’s about leaving a legacy that outlasts your title. "In the end, your legacy won't be the spreadsheets you perfected or the budgets you balanced. It will be the people who felt safer because you were their leader. It will be the culture of trust you built that continued to thrive long after you handed over the keys. Heart-centered leadership is the decision to plant seeds in the hearts of others, knowing that you might not be the one to sit in the shade of the trees that grow from them. But you lead anyway. You love anyway. Because that is what it means to follow the Great Shepherd." The Full Cover Reveal A book's cover is its first handshake with the reader. For Leading with Heart, I wanted a design that conveyed both the weight of leadership and the warmth of the heart. The Front Cover The high-contrast imagery represents the reality of leadership: it is often a walk through shadows and light. The bold typography reflects the strength required to lead with heart. This isn't "nice" leadership; it's powerful leadership. The Back Cover The back cover outlines our core promise: to provide actionable insights that help you lead with intention, authenticity, and empathy. From emotional intelligence to active listening, this is your field guide for a more human-centric way of working and living. Deep Dive: The Foundation of Heart-Centered Leadership When we talk about "Heart-Centered Leadership," what are we actually talking about? Is it just being "nice"? Is it just avoiding conflict? Absolutely not. In fact, heart-centered leadership often requires more confrontation and more discipline than the old top-down models. It requires the discipline to look in the mirror before you look at your team's performance metrics. 1. Intentions Over Goals In the corporate world, we are obsessed with goals. "What is our Q4 target?" "How many new members did we add this month?" Goals are important for tracking progress, but they are hollow if they aren't driven by intentions. An intention is the "why" behind the "what." While a goal is something you reach in the future, an intention is something you live in the present. If your goal is to grow your church, but your intention isn't rooted in love for the lost, you will eventually view people as numbers to be managed rather than souls to be served. Heart-centered leaders set intentions first. They ask: How do I want to show up in this meeting? How do I want my team to feel after they leave my office? When your intentions are aligned with your core values and biblical truth, your goals become much easier to navigate because your "North Star" is fixed. 2. The Power of Vulnerability We’ve been conditioned to think that a leader must have all the answers. We believe that if we admit we’re struggling or that we don't know the way forward, we will lose our authority. But the opposite is true. When a leader says, "I made a mistake," or "I'm feeling the weight of this season too," they create psychological safety. Vulnerability is the bridge that allows your team to trust you. If you are always "perfect," your team will feel they have to be perfect too. And perfectionism is the enemy of innovation and honesty. By sharing your journey, you invite your team to share theirs. This creates a culture of transparency where problems can be solved because they aren't being hidden. 3. Empathy as a Strategic Tool Empathy is often dismissed as a "soft skill," but in the modern workplace, it is a survival skill. Empathy is the ability to understand and share the feelings of another. In a leadership context, it means listening to understand, not just to respond. When a leader practices active listening: giving their full attention, validating feelings, and asking clarifying questions: they are doing more than being "kind." They are gathering vital data. They are learning what motivates their team, where the bottlenecks are, and what hidden talents are waiting to be unleashed. Empathy allows you to lead people as they are, not as you wish they were. 4. The 5 Components of Emotional Intelligence (EI) To lead with heart, you must develop your Emotional Intelligence. In this book, we break EI down into five key areas that every Christian leader needs to master: Self-Awareness: Knowing your own triggers, strengths, and weaknesses. You cannot lead others if you are a stranger to yourself. Self-Regulation: The ability to manage your emotions under pressure. A heart-centered leader doesn't let their bad mood dictate the team's atmosphere. Motivation: Being driven by a purpose beyond just status or money. For us, this is our calling in Christ. Empathy: Deeply considering the feelings of others in the decision-making process. Social Skills: The ability to build rapport and navigate complex social dynamics with grace and wisdom. 5. Building Unshakable Trust Trust is the currency of leadership. You can have the best strategy in the world, but if your team doesn't trust you, you won't get anywhere. Trust is built through consistency, reliability, and integrity. From an Assemblies of God perspective, integrity isn't just about following the rules; it’s about being the same person in the dark as you are in the spotlight. It’s about aligning your actions with the Word of God. When people see that you are willing to make the hard choice because it’s the right choice, trust is forged. And once you have trust, your team will follow you into the most difficult challenges because they know you have their best interests: and the heart of God: at the center of your leadership. The Leading with Heart Roadmap (20-Chapter Outline) This book is designed to be a comprehensive journey. Here is where we are going over the next 20 chapters: The Heart of the Leader: Defining the internal starting point of all influence. The old, aggressive, "kill or be killed" mentality is proving to be unsustainable. It kills creativity, it drives away talent, and it is fundamentally at odds with the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Whether you are looking for Christian leadership books to help you grow your business or Christian discipleship resources to help you mentor your small group, Leading with Heart is designed to be your companion. It is time to stop leading from a place of fear and start leading from a place of heart. It is time to recognize that our greatest asset isn't our technology or our capital: it’s our people. And the only way to lead people effectively is to lead them with a heart that has been transformed by the love of God. Are you ready to start the journey?
