Happy Friday. As we head into the weekend, the world continues to move at a rapid pace. At The McReport, we believe that staying informed shouldn't lead to anxiety. Instead, we look at the news through a lens of faith, seeking truth and finding ways to respond with the peace of Christ. Here are five major developments from the last 24 hours that you should know about before you log off for the weekend. 1. Former President Bill Clinton Testifies in Epstein Investigation The Facts
Former President Bill Clinton testified under oath this week before the House Oversight Committee. This testimony follows a deposition given by former First Lady Hillary Clinton just twenty-four hours prior. The inquiries are centered on their historical connections to Jeffrey Epstein. During his testimony, President Clinton maintained his previous stance, characterizing the entire proceeding as "partisan political theater." For her part, Hillary Clinton denied ever meeting Epstein or having any knowledge of his criminal activities. The Lens
As believers, we understand that truth is not a relative concept; it is foundational. In the Assemblies of God tradition, we emphasize the importance of personal integrity and the biblical principle that "nothing is hidden that will not be made manifest" (Luke 8:17). When our leaders: past or present: are called to account, it serves as a reminder that every human soul is subject to the truth. We don't view these events through a lens of political "winning" or "losing," but rather through the lens of justice for those who were harmed by Epstein’s actions. The Response
Our response should be one of prayer for clarity and justice. We pray for the victims who are still seeking closure and for the truth to be revealed without the cloud of political bias. We can also take this moment to reflect on our own lives, asking the Holy Spirit to search our hearts and ensure we are walking in transparency. 2. New Leads in the Search for Nancy Guthrie The Facts
Law enforcement officials have released new information regarding the disappearance of Nancy Guthrie. Investigators are currently focusing on a newly recovered video that shows a vehicle spotted in the area on the night she was taken. This lead is being treated as a significant development in a case that has gripped the local community. Authorities are asking the public to come forward with any information regarding the vehicle’s description or its potential whereabouts. The Lens
The heart of God is always toward the lost. In the Parable of the Lost Sheep, we see a Savior who leaves the ninety-nine to find the one. This search is a physical manifestation of that spiritual reality. Every individual has inherent value as an image-bearer of God. As a community of faith, we believe in the power of divine intervention and the wisdom of the Holy Spirit to guide investigators to the right place at the right time. The Response
We invite you to join us in prayer for Nancy Guthrie’s safe return. Pray for her family, that they would experience the "peace that passes all understanding" during this agonizing wait. If you live in the area or have any information, we encourage you to act with courage and contact the authorities. Let us be a people who look out for one another. 3. U.S.-Iran Nuclear Negotiations Reach a Standstill The Facts
Another round of indirect nuclear negotiations between the United States and Iran has concluded without a definitive breakthrough. Despite the lack of a formal agreement, a mediator involved in the process noted that "significant progress" was made during the talks. The negotiations aim to restore the 2015 nuclear deal, which has been a point of international tension for several years. Both sides remain cautious, and no date has been set for the next round of discussions. The Lens
The Assemblies of God holds a firm belief in the Second Coming of Christ, which informs how we view global instability. While we know that true and lasting peace will only come when the Prince of Peace returns, we are called to be peacemakers in the present. Stability in the Middle East is not just a political goal; it is a humanitarian and spiritual necessity. We recognize that the threat of nuclear escalation affects millions of innocent lives. The Response
Pray for the diplomats and leaders involved in these negotiations. Ask for the "wisdom from above" (James 3:17) to guide their decisions. We also pray for the people of Iran and the surrounding regions, that they would live in safety and have the opportunity to hear the message of the Gospel. Our hope is not in treaties, but in the sovereign hand of God over the nations. 4. Escalation of Violence in Gaza The Facts
Overnight reports indicate that Israeli drone attacks targeted two police stations in Gaza, resulting in the deaths of at least six Palestinians. The strikes occurred in the Bureij refugee camp and the al-Mawasi area. Palestinian officials have claimed that since the U.S.-brokered ceasefire began last October, there have been over 1,600 violations, leading to the deaths of more than 600 people. The situation remains highly volatile as both sides accuse the other of breaking the terms of the agreement. The Lens
The sanctity of life is a non-negotiable value for the Church. Every life lost: whether Israeli or Palestinian: is a tragedy in the eyes of God. We mourn with those who mourn. In the midst of complex geopolitical conflicts, we must resist the urge to take tribal sides that ignore the suffering of common people. We look for the day when "nation shall not lift up sword against nation" (Isaiah 2:4). Until then, we advocate for mercy and the protection of non-combatants. The Response
We ask you to pray fervently for an end to the violence. Pray for the families in Gaza who are living in fear and for the peace of Jerusalem. As followers of Jesus, we can support relief organizations that provide medical aid and food to those caught in the crossfire. Let our hearts remain soft toward the suffering, avoiding the hardness of heart that often comes with prolonged conflict. 5. Columbia University Student Arrested by ICE Agents The Facts
Protests have erupted at Columbia University following the arrest of a graduate student by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents. Reports indicate that the student was taken into custody without a warrant and under what witnesses described as false pretenses. The university’s acting president has publicly questioned the conduct of the agents involved. The incident has sparked a wider debate on campus regarding the rights of international students and the boundaries of federal law enforcement on private property. The Lens
Scripture is clear about our responsibility to the "sojourner" or the stranger among us. While we respect the necessity of law and order, we also believe in the fundamental dignity of every person and the importance of due process. In our faith tradition, we believe that the Holy Spirit empowers us to stand for the marginalized. Justice should never be arbitrary; it should be consistent and merciful. The Response
Pray for the student involved and for the university community as they navigate this tension. We should advocate for policies that reflect both the rule of law and the compassion of Christ. Let us treat our neighbors: regardless of their citizenship status: with the kindness and respect we would want for ourselves.
