LM Games Beta: A Browsable Game Shelf, Paddle Rally and a Clear Rule for Classics

LM Games now opens as a browsable shelf instead of one giant simulation screen, adds the original Paddle Rally arcade game, and establishes a clear licensing rule for future official or open web games.

Beta test updateThis article documents what is working now, what it can do for users, and the workflow we want real testers to pressure-test.

What changed

  • The top of LM Games now behaves like a game library where people can see choices before opening a large play area.

  • The retired church-game experiment is no longer part of the visible LM Games or LM Arcade catalog.

  • The LM Retro Arcade shelf now exposes each original game as a browseable card.

  • Paddle Rally adds a keyboard- and touch-friendly paddle game built from scratch inside LM.

  • The page now explains the difference between LM Originals, Retro Originals and future Official/Open embeds.

Why not simply embed every famous Atari game we can find?

Being playable somewhere on the web does not automatically grant LM permission to host, frame, copy or redistribute it. LM will use official publisher-provided browser embeds or APIs when those exist and permit our use, and clearly licensed open-source or public-domain games when the license supports it. Otherwise we will build original games around durable mechanics such as paddle, maze, racing, memory, reaction, blocks and space navigation without copying protected art, names, sound or ROM data.

What this can do for players

  • Browse quickly instead of entering one game before seeing the rest.

  • Play short original arcade games without an installation.

  • Use keyboard or touch controls on supported games.

  • Post member high scores on LM original games.

  • Move between the current verified cartridges without leaving the canonical LM Games catalog.

What we want testers to test

  • Can you understand the game choices without scrolling through a wall of explanation?

  • Does the shelf make it easy to jump between current games while preserving one clear source of truth?

  • Test Paddle Rally with keyboard and touch controls.

  • Tell us which classic game mechanics you want LM to reinterpret as an original.

  • If you know of an official publisher browser game or clearly licensed open-source game that belongs here, send the source and license—not just a random playable link.
