Wars and Rumors of Wars Jesus spoke directly about global conflict in Matthew 24:6-8: "You will hear of wars and rumors of wars, but see to it that you are not alarmed. Such things must happen, but the end is still to come. Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom." Notice what Jesus says: don't be alarmed. The presence of conflict isn't necessarily a sign that the end is immediate: it's a sign that we live in a fallen world where sin produces division and violence. Jesus calls His followers to steady awareness, not panic. Jerusalem as a Focal Point Zechariah 12:2-3 does prophesy that Jerusalem will become "a cup of trembling" and "a burdensome stone for all people." The modern return of Israel to its ancient homeland and the ongoing disputes over Jerusalem have caused many Bible students to pay close attention to Middle Eastern developments. Whether these are directly fulfilling end-times prophecy or simply reflecting longstanding regional tensions is a matter of theological debate among faithful believers. Discernment Over Date-Setting Here's something crucial: while Scripture encourages watchfulness, Jesus explicitly said in Matthew 24:36, "But about that day or hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father." We should be cautious about assigning specific years as definitive prophetic moments. That doesn't mean we ignore the signs of the times: but it does mean we hold our specific interpretations with humility and grace toward those who see things differently. Pray for Wisdom and Discernment James 1:5 promises, "If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you." Ask God to help you separate truth from hype, conviction from fear, and urgency from panic. 3. Focus on Your Faithful Obedience You can't control what happens in 2026 or any other year. You can control whether you love well today, serve humbly today, forgive quickly today, and share the gospel boldly today. Do the next right thing in front of you. 4.
