The Apostle Paul did not preach a blind leap into the dark; rather, the Christian movement staked its entire credibility on public, verifiable historical events, most notably the resurrection of Jesus Christ (1 Corinthians 15:14). When we examine the question: is it reasonable to believe in God?: we are not asking for absolute, mathematical laboratory proof that forces belief against human will. In everyday life, we rarely operate on absolute proof. We operate on cumulative evidence and inference to the best explanation. The disciples, previously scattered and terrified, were radically transformed, willingly facing imprisonment, torture, and execution for proclaiming the resurrection. Alternative naturalistic theories: such as the disciples hallucinating, stealing the body, or Jesus swooning: fail to account for the historical data.
