Dr. Mac Christian Movie Reviews: Cool World (1992)

Updated: Aug 18

ree

“This is not Saturday morning cartoons — it’s Saturday night fever with ink and paint. Parents, beware: this one is dressed like a cartoon but plays like a late-night cable mistake.”

🗣️ Language & Profanity

  • Plenty of profanity — scattered curses like “hell,” “damn,” “bastard,” and worse show up.

  • The tone is consistently crass, far more “adult” than kid-friendly.

😬 Inappropriate or Questionable Content

  • Sexual Content: The big red flag. The plot literally revolves around a cartoon woman (Holli Would, voiced by Kim Basinger) who wants to cross into the human world by… sleeping with a man. Yes, you read that right.

  • Seductive Imagery: Holli is hyper-sexualized — skimpy outfits, provocative dancing, and innuendos galore.

  • Violence: Dark, grotesque imagery. Cartoon slapstick, yes, but mixed with disturbing adult themes.

  • Drugs & Alcohol: Heavy nightclub atmosphere, suggestive settings, and party culture.

  • Overall Tone: Chaotic, disjointed, and drenched in mature themes that no child should be near.

✝️ The Christian Parent Grading Scale

F

This is not a kids’ movie. Period.

Language & Cleanliness

D-

Frequent profanity and innuendo.

Family & Emotional Engagement

No meaningful family content — it’s targeted at an adult audience.

Overall Christian Values

F

Glamorizes lust, rebellion, and immoral living.

🛠️ The Filter Fix

Here’s the truth: Not even VidAngel or Enjoy Movies Your Way can really rescue this one. You could bleep out the language and cut out the sex scenes, but the entire plot is built on innuendo and seduction. The “cleanup” would leave you with a confusing, half-movie mess.

🧑‍⚕️ Dr. Mac’s Verdict

🚦 Red Light — Hard Pass. This is a cartoon in disguise, absolutely not for children and not really worth the time for adults either. Unlike Who Framed Roger Rabbit, which at least had cleverness and some redeeming humor, Cool World feels like it was designed to bait kids in with cartoon colors while serving up late-night adult themes.

Christian families — skip this one. You’re better off with literally any other animated/live-action mix.
