It's been one of those days. The kind where the headlines pile up faster than you can process them, where tragedy and tension compete for your attention, and by evening you're not sure whether to pray, weep, or just turn it all off.
Before you do any of those things, let's take a breath together. Let's look at what actually happened today: without the hype, without the spin: and then let's ask: what does Jesus say about a world like this?
What Happened Today: The Facts
Canada School Shooting (Tumbler Ridge, British Columbia)
At least nine people were killed in a mass shooting at a secondary school in northeastern British Columbia. Six victims were found dead at the school, and reports indicate the total death toll includes the suspect. Dozens of others were injured. Canadian authorities are still investigating motive and timeline, and families across the region are grieving unimaginable loss.

El Paso Airport Grounded for 10 Days
The FAA issued a temporary flight restriction at El Paso International Airport, halting all flights for 10 days and citing "special security reasons." The New York Times reported the closure was linked to anti-drone warfare tests at nearby Fort Bliss. The FAA later clarified there was no threat to commercial aviation, but the sudden disruption affected thousands of travelers and raised questions about transparency and coordination.
FBI Raids Fulton County Elections Hub (Georgia)
Federal investigators conducted a raid on the Fulton County Elections Hub, reportedly looking into whether there were intentional acts aimed at altering Georgia's 2020 election results. Details remain limited, but the action signals an ongoing investigation into election integrity and alleged interference at the local level.
Ukrainian Drones Strike Russian Refinery
Overnight drone attacks attributed to Ukraine hit the Volgograd refinery in Russia, causing multiple explosions and a large fire. In response, Russian authorities closed Volgograd International Airport. Meanwhile, in Ukraine, four people were killed in a Russian airstrike on Bohodukhiv in the Kharkiv region, with two others injured.

VP Vance Visits Armenia and Azerbaijan
Vice President Vance traveled to the South Caucasus to promote a new regional trade corridor. During the visit, the U.S. and Armenia signed a civil nuclear energy agreement and a $9.2 million deal for drone technology. The trip is part of broader efforts to strengthen U.S. ties in the region amid ongoing tensions between Armenia and Azerbaijan.
U.S. Troops Deploying to Nigeria
The Pentagon announced it will send 200 U.S. troops to Nigeria to train local military forces in counter-insurgency operations against Islamist militant groups. The deployment is part of a broader security partnership aimed at stabilizing the region.
Other Developments
Barbados held a general election to elect members of the House of Assembly.
A security guard was killed and three others injured in a shooting at a technical college in Anapa, Russia.
What Does Jesus Say About Days Like This?
When the disciples asked Jesus about wars, rumors of wars, earthquakes, and violence, He didn't minimize it. He didn't say, "Don't worry, everything's fine." But He also didn't say, "Panic and despair."
He said this:
"You will hear of wars and rumors of wars, but see to it that you are not alarmed. Such things must happen, but the end is not yet." (Matthew 24:6)
In other words: don't be surprised, and don't be shaken.
The world is broken. It has been since Genesis 3. Violence, deception, power struggles, grief: these are not new. What is new is the 24/7 information cycle that makes it feel like the sky is falling every single day.
But Jesus calls us to something different. Not denial. Not numbness. Not tribalism. Steady, grounded faithfulness.

Here's what that looks like in practical terms:
1. Mourn Without Losing Hope
When children and teachers are killed in a school, we don't rush past it. We don't "spin" it to fit a narrative. We grieve. We weep with those who weep (Romans 12:15). Jesus wept at the tomb of His friend (John 11:35), and so can we.
But we also remember: death does not get the last word. Jesus does.
2. Pray Specifically, Not Generally
It's easy to say, "I'll pray for the world." It's harder: and more biblical: to pray specifically:
Pray for the families in Tumbler Ridge by name as they're released.
Pray for investigators in Georgia to uncover truth, not just convenient answers.
Pray for civilians in Ukraine and Russia who didn't choose this war but are living it every day.
Pray for wisdom for leaders making decisions about troops, technology, and trade.
Specific prayers keep us from slipping into vague spirituality that costs us nothing.
3. Resist the Tribalism Trap
Every story today will be weaponized by someone. The school shooting will become a debate about guns or mental health or "where was God?" The FBI raid will be framed as either justice or a witch hunt depending on which news channel you watch.
Don't take the bait.
You can care about justice without assuming everyone who disagrees with you is evil. You can hold convictions without dehumanizing people. You can ask hard questions without feeding outrage for clicks.
4. Do One Tangible Thing
Faith without works is dead (James 2:17). So what's one thing you can do in response to today's news?
Send a message to someone you know in Canada or near El Paso.
Donate to a verified relief fund.
Have a calm, honest conversation with your kids about violence, fear, and where our hope actually comes from.
Turn off the news loop and spend 15 minutes in Scripture or silence before bed.
Don't try to solve everything. Just do one faithful thing.

5. Remember: God Is Not Surprised
We serve a God who entered a world of Roman occupation, political corruption, religious hypocrisy, and violence: and He still said, "Take heart; I have overcome the world" (John 16:33).
He didn't promise us a problem-free life. He promised us His presence in the middle of the mess.
Closing Thought: You Don't Have to Carry It All
If today's news left you feeling heavy, anxious, or overwhelmed: you're not weak. You're human. And you're not meant to carry the weight of the world. That's Jesus' job.
Your job is simpler:
Love God.
Love your neighbor.
Do the next right thing.
Rest when you need to.
Trust that God is still sovereign, still good, and still working.
The headlines will keep coming. But so will the sunrise. So will mercy. So will grace.
And so will Jesus: faithful, steady, and near to the brokenhearted.
