Broadcasting giant Fox has announced a new long-form miniseries event that aims to shift the lens of biblical storytelling. Titled The Faithful: Women of the Bible, the series is scheduled to premiere on Sunday, March 22, 2026. The production focuses on the foundational narratives of Genesis, but with a distinct creative mandate: telling these ancient accounts through the perspectives of the women who lived them.
The series, which concludes on Easter Sunday, April 5, 2026, is structured as a three-week television event. It will be available on Fox and FOX One, with streaming episodes following the next day on Hulu. According to production notes and reports from the National Catholic Register and IMDb, the series explores the lives of five pivotal figures: Sarah, Hagar, Rebekah, Leah, and Rachel.
The Facts: A Three-Week Narrative Journey
The miniseries is divided into three distinct installments, each tackling the complexities of life in the ancient Near East and the divine calls that shaped the lineage of faith.
The premiere on March 22 introduces Sarah, played by Academy Award nominee Minnie Driver, and Hagar, portrayed by Natacha Karam. This first installment navigates the agonizing delay of God’s promise and the subsequent decision to use Hagar as a surrogate. The narrative focuses on the emotional toll and the shifting power dynamics between the two women as they navigate a situation that would eventually give rise to two nations.

The second installment, airing March 29, shifts focus to Rebekah, played by Alexa Davalos. This episode centers on the theme of "the impossible choice." Following the biblical account, the drama explores Rebekah’s role in the succession of the covenant, specifically her decision to favor her son Jacob over Esau. Producers have noted that this episode seeks to ground Rebekah’s actions in her maternal instinct and her understanding of divine prophecy.
The series concludes on Easter Sunday, April 5, with a two-hour finale focusing on the rival sisters Leah (Millie Brady) and Rachel (Blu Hunt). This segment examines the complex polygamous marriage to Jacob, the pain of unrequited love, and the competitive struggle for legacy through childbearing.
Executive producer René Echevarria has stated that the creative team was committed to emotional authenticity. The goal was not to replace the scriptural record but to fill in the "emotional gaps": imagining the day-to-day realities, the fears, and the internal strength required of these women in a patriarchal society. Executive producer Julie Weitz added that the stories address universal themes of motherhood, loss, and the difficult choices parents must make.
The Lens: A Pentecostal Perspective on the Matriarchs
From an Assemblies of God and broader Pentecostal perspective, the lives of Sarah, Hagar, Rebekah, Leah, and Rachel are more than historical or literary studies; they are blueprints of how the Holy Spirit works through human frailty to accomplish divine purposes.
In our tradition, we emphasize the "Fourfold Gospel": Salvation, Baptism in the Holy Spirit, Divine Healing, and the Second Coming. When we look at the women of Genesis, we see the early stirrings of these truths. We see women who needed the healing of their hearts and bodies, women who were called into a relationship with a living God, and women who, despite their flaws, were essential to the redemptive plan that eventually brought the Savior into the world.
Proverbs 31:25 states, "Strength and dignity are her clothing, and she laughs at the time to come." While this verse is often used to describe a contemporary "virtuous woman," it is deeply applicable to the matriarchs. These women did not live in a vacuum of perfection. They lived in a world of dust, scarcity, and social vulnerability. Their "strength and dignity" were not products of their circumstances, but of their reliance on the Promise-Keeper.

Sarah, for instance, is a study in the intersection of doubt and divine intervention. Hebrews 11:11 reminds us, "By faith Sarah herself received power to conceive, even when she was past the age, since she considered him faithful who had promised." Sarah’s laughter: initially one of disbelief: transformed into a laughter of joy. For the Pentecostal believer, Sarah represents the reality of divine healing and the miraculous power of God to bring life to "dead" situations.
The inclusion of Hagar is equally significant. In the Pentecostal mindset, Hagar represents the "God who sees" (El Roi). Even outside the primary covenantal household, God’s mercy and provision reached her in the wilderness. This reflects our mission to meet people exactly where they are: in their pain, their displacement, and their isolation: and to remind them that the Holy Spirit is a Comforter for all who call out to Him.
The Response: Finding Strength in Modern Walk
The portrayal of these women as "flawed and complex" is perhaps the most relatable aspect of the series for the modern Christian. We often sanitize biblical figures, forgetting that they "stumbled," as executive producer René Echevarria noted. However, the Pentecostal walk is one of "stumbling forward" by the grace of the Spirit.
When we see Rebekah’s manipulation or Leah’s jealousy, we are not seeing reasons to dismiss them; we are seeing reasons to hope. If God could use such complicated families to build the nation of Israel and preserve the line of Christ, He can certainly use our complicated lives today.

This series serves as a reminder that faith is not a passive state of mind, but a persistent endurance. Whether it is Sarah waiting decades for a child or Rachel wrestling with her sister for her husband’s affection, these women lived out a "Pentecostal" fervor: a desperate, active clinging to the presence of God in the midst of life’s storms.
We encourage our readers to view these stories not just as entertainment, but as an invitation to deeper study. This week, we invite you to choose one biblical woman: perhaps one of the five featured in The Faithful: and read her account directly from the book of Genesis. Look past the Sunday School summaries. Look at her challenges, her prayers, and her perseverance.

As we approach the premiere of this series and the subsequent celebration of Easter, let us remember that the same God who spoke to Hagar in the desert and gave Sarah strength in her old age is the God who is active in our lives today. He is the God of the miraculous, the God of the broken, and the God who makes all things new.
