The River is Rising: Reports of Revival from Brazil to the US

Something is happening in the waters of the Amazon, and the ripples are reaching all the way to American soil. In the world of faith, we often talk about "seasons." Sometimes the ground feels hard and dry, but other times, it feels like the floodgates have opened. Right now, from the deep jungles of South America to the university campuses of the United States, there are reports that a spiritual river is rising.

At The McReport, we focus on providing a truthful look at what is happening in our world through a lens of peace and biblical clarity. Today, we’re looking at the massive Christian revivals taking place in Brazil and how that fire is fueling a new wave of ministry within the US.

The Facts: A Wave of Baptisms and Gatherings

The numbers coming out of Brazil are, quite frankly, staggering. In the Amazon region, recent reports indicate that over 14,500 people were baptized following concentrated revival efforts. This isn't just a single event in a single city; it is a widespread movement involving indigenous communities and river villages that have historically been difficult to reach.

In the urban centers, the momentum is just as strong. Earlier this year, Apostle Kathryn Krick hosted "Revival Is Now" in São Paulo. The event drew approximately 10,000 people in person, but the digital reach was even larger, with over 70,000 participants joining online. These gatherings are frequently characterized by reports of physical healings and deep spiritual encounters, echoing the Pentecostal traditions that have long been a cornerstone of the Assemblies of God and similar faith movements.

While the movement in Brazil is reaching a fever pitch, the United States is seeing a significant response. Rather than a separate, isolated event, US churches are increasingly "exporting" their congregations to witness and participate in what God is doing in Brazil. Organizations like Global Awakening have scheduled at least seven mission trips to Brazil for 2026, sending hundreds of Americans to cities like Rio de Janeiro and Maringá.

Closer to home, US campuses and local ministries are reporting a "spillover" effect. There is a renewed hunger among Gen Z and younger millennials for authentic spiritual experiences. We are seeing a shift from traditional, program-heavy church models toward spontaneous prayer meetings and "pop-up" revivals that mirror the energy seen in South America.

How It’s Happening: The Logistics of a Move of God

You might wonder how 14,500 people end up in a river for baptism in one of the most remote places on Earth. It isn't an accident. It’s a combination of local leadership, intentional mission work, and a cultural openness to the supernatural.

In the Amazon, the revival is being driven by "river circuit riders": ministers who travel by boat from village to village. They aren't just preaching; they are meeting physical needs, providing community support, and then inviting people into a relationship with Christ. This "boots-on-the-ground" approach has created a foundation for the massive baptism numbers we are seeing now.

In the US, the "how" looks a bit different. It’s driven largely by digital connectivity and a reaction against the "over-produced" church experience. When young people see videos of thousands of people worshipping in a Brazilian warehouse or an Amazonian river, it sparks a question: "Why not here?" This has led to an increase in US-based missions and a surge in domestic ministry engagement.

Church groups from Amarillo, Texas, to the East Coast are planning trips to São Paulo and Rio later this summer. The goal isn't just to "help," but to "catch" the spirit of what is happening there and bring that fervor back to their home pews.

The Balanced View: Spontaneous Fire vs. Long-Term Growth

Whenever we talk about revival, it’s important to stay grounded. There are two main perspectives on these movements, and both have merit.

The first perspective is one of celebration. Proponents argue that these spontaneous outpourings are exactly what the world needs: a direct intervention of the Holy Spirit that transcends logic or planning. They point to the healings and the massive baptism numbers as evidence that God is moving in a way that bypasses human systems. For those in the Assemblies of God tradition, this is a beautiful manifestation of the Baptism in the Holy Spirit.

The second perspective is one of cautious stewardship. Experienced leaders often ask: "What happens after the baptism?" The concern here is that without long-term discipleship, the "fire" of revival can burn out quickly. Converting 14,000 people is a miracle; mentoring 14,000 people is a decades-long commitment.

The reality likely lies in the middle. The "fire" provides the spark, but the "discipleship" provides the fuel. Without the spark, the church is just a social club. Without the fuel, the revival is just a moment in time.

The Biblical Lens: Acts 2:41

When we see thousands of people being baptized at once, our minds naturally go back to the early church. In the book of Acts, we see the blueprint for what is happening today.

Acts 2:41 says: "Those who accepted his message were baptized, and about three thousand were added to their number that day."

The early church was born in a moment of revival. It was spontaneous, it was messy, and it was powered by the Holy Spirit. However, if you read just a few verses further into Acts 2:42, it says they "devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship."

From a biblical perspective, the "river rising" in Brazil and the US is a fulfillment of the promise that the Spirit will be poured out in the last days. It is a reminder that God is not limited by geography or culture. Whether it’s 3,000 in Jerusalem or 14,000 in the Amazon, the goal is the same: the restoration of humanity through Christ.

Calm Next Steps: How to Respond

It’s easy to get caught up in the "hype" of revival news, or conversely, to become cynical about it. We suggest a middle path of "peaceful engagement."

First, celebrate. If people are finding hope, healing, and a new life in Christ, that is a win for the Kingdom. We don't need to over-analyze a miracle to appreciate its beauty.

Second, discern. Ask the Holy Spirit where He is leading you in your own community. You don't have to fly to Brazil to experience a move of God. The same Spirit moving in São Paulo is the same Spirit in your living room.

Third, focus on the "river" in your own life. Revival starts in the heart of the individual. If you feel "dry," ask God for a fresh outpouring. If you feel "full," ask God who you can share that overflow with.

Hope for the Journey

The reports from Brazil and the US tell us one thing clearly: people are hungry for something real. In a world that often feels fractured and anxious, the sight of thousands of people coming together in peace and worship is a powerful testimony.

The river is rising, but it’s not a flood intended to destroy; it’s a stream intended to give life. We are living in a time where the Great Commission is being fulfilled in real-time, right before our eyes.

If you are looking for a place to grow your faith or if you want to be part of a community that seeks after these spiritual truths with a calm and grounded heart, we invite you to connect with us. Whether you are in the heart of a revival or in a season of waiting, you don't have to walk the path alone.
