Family: You UPGRADED: Family Time, Faith, and Financial Freedom — The Three Things That Actually Matter

To live an upgraded life, you must shift your focus from the external rat race to the internal trio of family time, spiritual faith, and intentional financial freedom. This transition requires removing yourself from the relentless grind of what you do to rediscover who you are at your core, ensuring that your legacy is built on enduring love and spiritual purpose rather than temporary possessions.

Welcome to a special edition of the You UPGRADED newsletter, specifically crafted for my community on LinkedIn. Before we dive into the heart of today’s message, I want to invite you to join the conversation where it happens daily. If you are reading this on the blog, head over to LinkedIn, follow my profile, and subscribe to this newsletter natively on that platform. With over 15,000 followers, including thousands from a major financial institution that makes up about 35% of our community, we are building a space for real engagement. I want to hear from you, learn from your journey, and help you sharpen your vision for a life well-lived.

The Reality of the Deathbed Perspective

There is a profound truth that every leader eventually discovers, usually when the noise of the world finally goes quiet. No one, at the end of their life, ever looks back and says they wish they had spent more time at the office. No one wishes they had answered one more email or closed one more deal at the expense of being present with those they love. On our deathbeds, we talk about people. We talk about moments. We talk about the feelings of love, grace, and hope that we shared.

The rat race is a lie that tells you that your value is found in your output. But true health, mental, spiritual, and financial, starts with the realization that the grind is a tool, not a destination. If you are a high-capacity leader, you are likely part of the "thousands" who are working hard to build something, but I am here to ask you: what are you building it for? If the work consumes the very people it was meant to support, the math doesn't work.

Reclaiming the Best Things (They are Usually Free)

We often think that upgrading our lives requires a massive financial investment, but some of the most transformative upgrades don’t cost a dime. I am talking about digital removal, turning off the phone to look your spouse in the eye. I am talking about camping under the stars with your kids, where the only "notifications" are the sounds of the fire and the wind. These are the life moments that forge identity.

Faith is another pillar that is accessible to everyone, yet it is the most neglected resource in the professional world. I invite you every Sunday on LinkedIn to join me at church, but more than that, I invite you to a relationship with the Creator that transcends your labor. Going to church, or simply finding a quiet place to pray, is about removing yourself from yourself. It is about stepping away from the daily labor to find out who you are when you aren't "producing." You are a child of God before you are a CEO, a manager, or an analyst.

The Three Fundamental Pillars of Change

To truly change your life forever, you must master these three things in synergy:

Family Time: This is your primary ministry and your greatest responsibility. Time is the currency of love. You cannot buy back the years you miss, but you can choose to be fully present today.

Faith: Faith is the compass that keeps you from getting lost in the fog of success. It provides the "True North" that guides your ethics, your resilience, and your peace of mind.

Financial Freedom: This isn't about hoarding wealth; it’s about having the margin to say "no" to the wrong things and "yes" to the right ones. It’s about being a good steward of what you have so that money serves you, rather than you serving money.

Building a Legacy for Heaven

You cannot take your house, your car, or your stock portfolio with you. The only "possessions" you can take to heaven are the people you love. What you leave behind on this earth is equally important. Your legacy isn't your bank account; it’s the enduring lessons of mercy and hope you planted in others. It is the way you cared for those who didn't see eye to eye with you. It is the long-suffering love you showed when things were difficult.

When you remove the mask of the professional grind, you find your core. That core is where your "Lion's Roar" lives. It is the bold, courageous, yet merciful part of you that knows your identity is secure. Live your best roar by taking care of yourself today. Remember who you truly are, not just what you do for a living.

What This Means for You Today

I have a simple challenge for you today. Call someone. Text someone. Don't let the day end without letting the people in your life know they are loved. Reach out to a family member, a friend, or a colleague and speak words of life into them. Loving yourself starts with acknowledging that you are worth more than your productivity.
