Raising Giants Back Cover

Project Mission: Reclaiming the Home for Christ

We live in an age where the "giant" is no longer a physical warrior on a battlefield, but a digital presence in the palm of a hand. Our children are growing up in an environment where algorithms are the new catechisms, and social media influencers are the new high priests. The mission of Raising Giants is simple yet high-stakes: to empower parents to reclaim their homes as the primary center of discipleship.

This book is not a manual on how to hide from the world; it is a strategy for raising children who can stand tall in it. It is about building resilient faith, fostering emotional intelligence, and practicing digital stewardship that honors God. We aren't just raising children; we are raising the next generation of spiritual giants who will carry the light of Christ into a dark and distracted world.

Dedication

To my wife, whose steadfast love and wisdom have been the cornerstone of our own home, and to every parent who has ever felt overwhelmed by the digital tide, may you find hope, strength, and a clear path forward in these pages.

Author’s Note

As a father and a minister, I have watched the cultural landscape shift beneath our feet. I have seen the anxiety in parents' eyes and the distraction in children's hearts. This book was born out of a burden to see families thrive, not just survive. We serve a God who is bigger than any algorithm, and His Spirit is more powerful than any screen. It is time we lead our families with that conviction.

The 20-Chapter Roadmap

Chapter 1: The Giant Problem – Understanding the Digital Goliath

We begin by naming the challenge. This chapter explores how the digital age has fundamentally altered the development of children's worldviews. We look at the statistics, how 32,000 hours of digital input by age 18 creates a "default" discipleship that often contradicts biblical truth.

  • Key Scripture: 1 Samuel 17:45

  • Takeaway: We cannot fight a giant we haven't identified.

  • Illustration Plan: A comparative chart showing the "Time Gap" between digital input and church/family discipleship.

Chapter 2: The Foundation – Building on the Rock, Not the Stream

Before we can address behavior, we must address the foundation. This chapter focuses on the parent’s spiritual life. You cannot lead your child where you are not willing to go yourself. We discuss the "Rock" of Scripture versus the "Stream" of social media feeds.

  • Key Scripture: Matthew 7:24-25

  • Takeaway: A resilient child starts with a grounded parent.

  • Infographic Plan: A "House on the Rock" diagram detailing the pillars of a Christ-centered home.

Chapter 3: Screen Stewardship – Managing the Gateway to the Soul

Stewardship isn't just about money; it’s about attention. This chapter provides a practical framework for screen-time management, moving away from "limiting" to "stewarding." We cover the "Tech Plan" and setting sacred boundaries.

  • Key Scripture: Proverbs 4:23

  • Takeaway: What your child consumes eventually consumes them.

  • Infographic Plan: A "Family Tech Covenant" template.

The Digital Landscape of the Modern Child

Chapter 4: The Family Altar – Reclaiming Worship at Home

Discipleship is often viewed as a Sunday-morning event. This chapter challenges that notion by resurrecting the "Family Altar", the consistent, daily practice of worship, prayer, and Scripture reading within the home.

  • Key Scripture: Joshua 24:15

  • Takeaway: The most important church your child will ever attend is the one in your living room.

  • Illustration Plan: A warm, cinematic sketch of a family gathered around an open Bible.

Chapter 5: Emotional Intelligence – Navigating the Heart in a High-Tech World

Technology often numbs or distracts from true emotion. We explore how to teach children to identify, process, and surrender their emotions to God. This chapter addresses the "Comparison Culture" and the anxiety it breeds.

  • Key Scripture: Psalm 139:23-24

  • Takeaway: A child who can navigate their heart can navigate the world.

  • Infographic Plan: An "Emotion Wheel" for Christian parents to use during heart-to-heart conversations.

Chapter 6: Discipleship as Dialogue – Turning Conversations into Catechesis

We move from "preaching at" to "walking with." This chapter focuses on the power of the "as you go" conversations mentioned in Deuteronomy 6. We provide conversation starters for modern issues.

  • Key Scripture: Deuteronomy 6:7

  • Takeaway: Discipleship is a relationship, not a lecture.

  • Illustration Plan: A "Conversation Bridge" showing how to connect cultural events to biblical truth.

Chapter 7: The Algorithm and the Altar – Countering Secular Catechism

Algorithms are designed to reinforce our desires. This chapter exposes how digital platforms "catechize" children into secular worldviews and provides strategies to counter-form them through the habits of the faith.

  • Key Scripture: Romans 12:2

  • Takeaway: We must out-catechize the culture.

  • Infographic Plan: A "Counter-Catechism" chart comparing cultural lies with biblical truth.

Chapter 8: Identity in Christ vs. Identity in Likes

The "selfie culture" teaches children that their value is found in the approval of others. This chapter roots identity firmly in the Imago Dei (Image of God) and the redemptive work of Christ.

  • Key Scripture: Genesis 1:27

  • Takeaway: Your child is not a brand; they are a masterpiece of God.

  • Illustration Plan: A cinematic portrait of a child looking in a mirror and seeing the reflection of a crown/cross.

Chapter 9: Purity in a Pornified World

A heavy but necessary chapter. We discuss how to protect and prepare children for a world where sexualized content is ubiquitous. We focus on "The Theology of the Body" and proactive, age-appropriate conversations.

  • Key Scripture: Matthew 5:8

  • Takeaway: Purity is not just about avoiding "bad things"; it's about pursuing the "Greatest Thing."

  • Infographic Plan: A "Safe Guard" diagram for home internet and device monitoring.

Chapter 10: The Power of Boredom – Cultivating Creativity and Reflection

Constant stimulation kills creativity and the ability to hear God's "still small voice." This chapter argues for the necessity of "white space" in a child’s schedule.

  • Key Scripture: 1 Kings 19:12

  • Takeaway: Boredom is the soil in which spiritual depth grows.

  • Illustration Plan: A child sitting in a tree or a field, looking up at the clouds, away from devices.

Chapter 11: Friendships – Moving from Followers to Fellowship

Digital "friends" are often shallow and performance-based. We teach parents how to help their children build deep, Christ-centered community and how to navigate peer pressure in the digital age.

  • Key Scripture: Proverbs 13:20

  • Takeaway: Show me your child's friends, and I will show you their future.

  • Illustration Plan: A circle of diverse young people praying together.

Chapter 12: Authority and Honor – Respect in an Age of Rebellion

The internet is a breeding ground for mockery and the breakdown of authority. This chapter re-establishes the biblical command to honor parents and those in authority as a blueprint for a functioning society.

  • Key Scripture: Ephesians 6:1-3

  • Takeaway: Honor is the currency of the Kingdom.

  • Infographic Plan: The "Circles of Honor" diagram.

Chapter 13: Resilient Faith – Preparing for the Post-Christian World

We address the "Exodus" of young people from the church. This chapter provides a toolkit for intellectual and spiritual resilience, teaching children why they believe, not just what they believe.

  • Key Scripture: 1 Peter 3:15

  • Takeaway: Faith must be tested to be trusted.

  • Illustration Plan: A shield with various "arrows" (doubts/questions) bouncing off it.

Chapter 14: The Mental Health Crisis – A Spiritual Perspective

Addressing the skyrocketing rates of depression and anxiety among Gen Z and Gen Alpha. We look at the intersection of spiritual health, digital habits, and clinical support.

  • Key Scripture: Philippians 4:6-7

  • Takeaway: God is the Great Physician for both the soul and the mind.

  • Infographic Plan: A "Peace Checklist" for overwhelmed families.

Chapter 15: Rest and Sabbath – Unplugging to Reconnect

We explore the "Digital Sabbath", intentional time where the whole family disconnects from the grid to reconnect with God and each other.

  • Key Scripture: Exodus 20:8

  • Takeaway: You cannot have a rhythm of life without a rhythm of rest.

  • Illustration Plan: A family at a candlelit dinner table with a basket full of phones in the background.

Family Discipleship in a Digital Age

Chapter 16: The Gospel and Technology – Using Tools for the Kingdom

Technology is a tool, not an enemy. This chapter discusses "Digital Missions", how children can use their digital footprints to share the Gospel and serve others.

  • Key Scripture: Matthew 28:19-20

  • Takeaway: Don't just consume the internet; redeem it.

  • Infographic Plan: A "Digital Missionary" toolkit for teens.

Chapter 17: Parenting the Heart, Not the Behavior

We dive into the "Why" behind the "What." This chapter warns against legalism and encourages parents to seek heart-level transformation rather than outward compliance.

  • Key Scripture: 1 Samuel 16:7

  • Takeaway: Rules without relationship lead to rebellion.

  • Illustration Plan: A diagram showing "The Heart" as the root of "The Behavior."

Chapter 18: Community – Raising Giants Within the Church

No family is an island. We discuss the vital importance of the local church in the raising of children and how to leverage the "Village" to reinforce home discipleship.

  • Key Scripture: Hebrews 10:24-25

  • Takeaway: It takes a church to raise a giant.

  • Illustration Plan: A diverse group of multi-generational believers surrounding a family.

Chapter 19: Conflict and Forgiveness – Healing Digital Wounds

Cyberbullying, cancel culture, and digital misunderstandings are real. This chapter provides a biblical framework for conflict resolution and the necessity of grace.

  • Key Scripture: Colossians 3:13

  • Takeaway: Forgiveness is the only way to break the digital cycle of hurt.

  • Infographic Plan: "The Steps to Reconciliation" for families.

Chapter 20: The Legacy – Sending Giants into the World

The final chapter focuses on the "Send-Off." We look at the ultimate goal: raising adults who love Jesus, serve others, and lead with wisdom and courage.

  • Key Scripture: Psalm 127:4

  • Takeaway: Our children are arrows shot into a future we will not see.

  • Illustration Plan: An archer releasing a golden arrow toward a sunrise.

Epilogue: The Hope of the Harvest

Parenting is a long-game. There will be seasons of doubt, tears, and frustration. But we do not labor in vain. The seeds of truth we plant today, though they seem small, are the DNA of the giants of tomorrow. Stand firm, parent. God is with you in the quiet moments, the loud arguments, and the digital debates. He is the Father of all fathers, and He loves your children even more than you do.
