US News: Sen. Lindsey Graham (1955–2026) : A Life of Service Remembered

Senator Lindsey Graham of South Carolina, a close ally of President Donald Trump and a towering figure in American foreign policy, died Saturday evening after a brief and sudden illness. He was 71. Graham, a former Air Force lawyer and graduate of the University of South Carolina School of Law, served in the House of Representatives before being elected to the Senate in 2002. He chaired both the Senate Budget and Judiciary Committees and was one of Washington's most influential voices on foreign affairs.

A noted hawk, Graham was a fierce advocate for strong U.S. engagement abroad, particularly in Ukraine and Israel. He had just returned from a visit to Kyiv, his 10th trip to Ukraine since the Russian invasion. Upon hearing the news, Ukrainian President Zelenskyy called him "a true defender of freedom."

President Trump, speaking on NBC, said Graham was "like a member of the family" and ordered flags flown at half-staff across the nation. Graham’s life was defined not just by the halls of power, but by his humble roots in the back of a South Carolina bar and the responsibility he took on at a young age to raise his sister after their parents died.
