World: US and Iran Exchange Fresh Strikes : Is the Ceasefire Over?

By: Dr. Layne McDonald

Immediate Answer: The fragile ceasefire between the US and Iran appears to be collapsing after two consecutive nights of renewed strikes. The US struck about 90 targets inside Iran, and Iran retaliated against US-aligned Gulf states.

What Happened: For the second straight night, the US and Iran exchanged military strikes. US Central Command said it hit roughly 90 targets in Iran, including missile launchers and an airport runway. Iran responded by striking US military sites in Kuwait, Bahrain, and Qatar. President Trump warned the attacks could get "much worse" and suggested the interim ceasefire was effectively over.

Both Sides: The US says its strikes aim to protect freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, a critical chokepoint for global oil shipments. Iran says it is defending its sovereignty and warns that the strait will not reopen without Iranian terms. Mediators from Pakistan and Qatar continue to urge diplomacy.

Why It Matters: The Strait of Hormuz handles about 20% of the world's oil and natural gas. Renewed hostilities threaten global energy markets, with oil prices already climbing. An estimated 6,000 seafarers remain stranded in the Persian Gulf.

Biblical Perspective: "Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God." — Matthew 5:9. In times of escalating conflict, we are called to pray for peace, pray for leaders on all sides, and remember that God's ultimate plan is not chaos but shalom — complete wholeness and peace.

Life Takeaway: When the news feels heavy, we don't have to panic. We can stay informed, pray for peace, and trust that God is still sovereign over the nations. Our peace doesn't come from the absence of conflict — it comes from the presence of Christ.
